Our 5E Approach
Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, Evaluate (5Es)
TRClasses incorporates a 5E lesson plan structure alongside our robotics kits and curriculum. Aligned with NGSS Standards, the 5E lesson plan encourages students to delve into science and technology subjects including force and motion, artificial intelligence, nature, electricity, and computer science, among other captivating topics. This integrated STEAM learning approach mirrors the interconnectedness of science and technology disciplines as they are applied in real-world scenarios.
5E lessons work like this:
Engage
The first step is to engage student interest and create a personal connection to the lesson. In this step, we assess prior knowledge while the students reflect and ask questions about the lesson topic.
Explore
Step 2 allows students to explore and develop their own understanding of the lesson topic by incorporating hands-on activities.
Explain
Step 3 provides students with opportunities to share what they have learned. Can they answer the driving question?
Elaborate
Step 4 invites students to apply new knowledge and gauge the impact of that knowledge on prior understanding thus allowing them to solidify the connection between prior and new knowledge.
Evaluate
The final step provides time for students to reflect on the lesson and help them assess their learning and understanding of the lesson.
